The written history of China dates back to the Shāng 商 dynasty, which ruled approximately between 1600 and 1046 BC. During these more than three thousand years of history, the Middle Kingdom (中國 Zhōng Guó) has varied in extension over and over again by encompassing or leaving out different groups and territories to form what is now the People’s Republic of China (中华人民共和国 Zhōnghuá Rénmín Gònghéguó).
Although in this section we will normally focus on the history of Chinese Martial Arts, we do not want to exclude other historical events even if they are not related to this field.
Xuán Zàng 玄奘 was a leading figure in the development of Buddhism in China. In the 7th century, he traveled along the Silk Road from China to India to collect Buddhist scriptures, in an incredible journey that lasted for 19 years.

When Cáo Pī 曹丕 became the emperor of China, he was willing to kill his brother Cáo Zhí 曹植 so he could not claim the throne for himself. Thus he challenged him to compose a poem in the time it took him to walk seven steps. If he succeeded, his life would be respected; otherwise, he would be sentenced to death.
